Comparing “american icons to alex icons”

jeremy-scott-moschino-2014-2

This weekend has been real, busy for me as i am finishing up school for a bit (before spring break you know that time where people go to Florida, and get crazy on MTV) I cant help my mind goes back to #MFW for those of you who don’t know Jeremy Scott, he was just named the creative director of Moschino . Jeremy is rather known for his larger than life prints, fun type of items, and really “over the top” way of going about things. I’ve heard quite a few people discussing this collection “as tacky, a down grade to Moschino (which has been around since 1983). Few others have classified it as fun, a bit of a fun side with Moschino, thats what Jeremy Scott exudes. This F/W 14 is all about Iconic, icons that we all know and associate with. Especially in my marketing class we talk about Positioning a lot (which watch me make my teacher proud and talk about it, “positioning is creating a image of your product in a consumers mind, different from your competition”). As Americans we generally think of when we think of food, McDonalds, (one of the largest burger fast food joints in america , can we please talk about how much i love their ice cream) and thats what Jeremy Scott did, he took something everyone recognized as that- and ran with it, to make Moschino a brand everyone associates with. He “positioned” iconic labels already into an iconic label. In this last Sunday it was my first Sunday as an what i call an “official midwest blogger” which i felt hey, this is a real thing what, i met with several girls and i felt a bit out of place because my style isn’t like all the others but hey i thought with Jeremy Scott in mind and his recent show id chanel some of my own icons (like perhaps the California raisins or donald duck ring a bell?) …lets have a look shall we.

The Ugly Sweater Party

As you can see from the photos, this must be the post you were waiting on right? Today on Styled in the Heartland I am starting a series of #TRENDS that died but are cool now. First, we will start with the ugly sweater. We all know deep in your closet you have that giant bunny sweater your grandma probably knitted you, or in my case bought cheap at K-mart – thanks grandma. You’re possibly thinking what the hell is wrong with you? You’re actually wearing that god awful sweater?

Why yes, the ugly sweater has come up, not only because Bill Cosby made it cool in the 80s, but because in more recent years the art of the ugly sweater has come back in style.  You can find them in places like Urban outfitters, high-end retailers like Nasty Gal , Shop Jeen, and even Jeremy Scott. As we leave a time where the ugly sweater wasn’t cool, the rising “hipster” culture brought back the ridiculous sweater party. So you may find yourself asking, “Why would I wear that? I can’t make that happen.” My personal motto is “You can make tacky happen.” If I were you, and I’m not just suggesting this for your next ugly Christmas sweater party, I’d be looking at my nearest thrift store for gems, because when you find it, you’ll know it. Hence this one I’m wearing. Clearly there was a moral obligation for me to buy it,  am i right? Chances are, you are the only who owns it and it will get you a lot of looks (or for me it was like what the hell?).

For now, I don’t really see this trend dying out ever again because it’s been made cool by today’s generation of kids and adults.  This a definite trend you will see me rocking this winter, so do us a favor and get yourself an awesome UGLY “trendy” sweater.

Recap: Lets Push Some Prints And Pink

Let’s Discuss, Oscar De La Renta, now we all know this fabulous man  has been in business for along time, but seriously after seeing a few pictures of the collection not absolutely adore these. Lots of Brights, colors and streaky-colored hair! Look at that Hot Pink, i mean for real, Pink is really making a come back especially the bright pink. Oscar has been always known for his very tailored and glamourous look, thats why we love this collection.  (photos courtsey of tumblr.com)

Secondly we have Tory Burch, I used to shop at Tory Burch alot in chicago (boy do i miss the persian store carpet and those orange doors). But this collection was interesting because i wasnt seen the TB logo, everywhere. Alot of fun colors and mesy Fish tail braids. Also alot of interesting jewelry i saw in this collection but overall- awesome and lovely for spring.

now we have to talk about Marchesa, who is not only one of my very very very (VERY) favorite designers, i just Love Marchesa because its not only elegant but breathtaking and i hope to be married in some Marchesa wedding dress. But this little sampling of the s/s 2013 collection and I’m already in love with the bottom dress i love the colors and the train, i mean its so beautiful and the just the whole collection i fell in complete love with,

Last but not least Jeremy Scott S/S 2013 – Now if you know anything of Jeremy Scott you know that his outrageous with his outfits (ask Nicki Minaj since he designed her concert clothes) Hes also famous for those Animal Sneakers Via Adidas but this collection was interesting because it has a middle easter theme with the burkas, but he didnt leave the prints out Hello Animal Prints and Face Prints, even on the Men too, i wouldn’t expect less of Jeremy Scott to be honest with you, he is always over the top. but i do think his fashion is interesting to push boundaries which i do enjoy. so kuddos jeremy.

I hope you all enjoy this snidbit, and with that, good night!
