Spring Break : StayCation Vs Vacation

It’s Spring Break! (Get on your swimsuit and dance no wait I was totally kidding). If you’re like any other college student you’re probably going on a vacation. College age kids end up going to Florida or some other destination. As for me am looking forward to my staycation (Literally I’m not going anywhere). I plan on reading, organizing, and spring-cleaning. (Lets not even go there). I plan on shooting some more images with my new lens for my camera. I can’t wait, for a break. I have been studying, working, blogging, studying did I mention studying. The first time I was in college I spent a week doing service projects for an organization in Mississippi called Voice Of Calvary. The ministry helps build communities and relationships. The trip was the best spring break literally I have had.  This spring break I just plan to just relax. I can’t wait for Spring Break to start!

It’s 2014, new you, new me and new blog.

Just like everyone else 2014 brings new changes. It’s going to start right here with Styled in the heartland. i have far thought long about what do i want to write about? What is my demographic so i am slowly changing about how i blog, From now on every day i will be blogging. I have it all planned out and Mondays we are going to talk about something i have been learning a lot about more in the last 2 years. That’s Health + Wellness and why you should in 2014?

Yesterday i was having a conversation with my dear friend about why working out is so good for you? For me, i have long time suffered from depression and anxiety, and what did exercising do for me? Exercise changed my life literally, i loved listening to music and running or weight lifting . 2013 Was a very hard year for me from going to UN-employed to moving across state, to try to find work and get back into school. So as 2014 started, i told myself i was going to get back to working out, it really does wonders when you are feeling down. I cant tell you how many countless times that exercise took me from feeling sad to almost happy. So in 2014 i here by dedicated to exercising for my health and my well being. So here from now on Mondays will be Healthy Mondays on Styled in the heartland. Heres some of the visuals on working out! so lets get to it, get to that gym- and get those lu lu lemon pants on and go! You will feel worlds better ( as i just explained personally what working out did for me!)

Have an excellent monday, and remember lets go hard at the gym!

Hey guys, so did your survive black Friday? Or Just like me and go to one store (to buy this : Record Player). I luckily made it out in 30 minutes of time. I am very excited to bring you one of the last installations before i start talking all holiday of “Ugly Trends that are cool again” I will have two more installations, before i end this series. I have some exciting things coming up for the blog so be sure to stay tuned.

In this post, I’m going to talk about the ridiculous legging you know you probably own. I am a huge fan of leggings (and so is every girl in Iowa who wears Jackets and boots). I am more on the crazy leggings side of this, you see that leggings have become more and more popular in the rise of the Middle of the 21’st century. Everywhere you can imagine now sells them, I of course bought these stripped leggings at one of my favorite stores in NYC –Trash & Vaudeville (that have dressed the likes of Ramones and Debbie Harry to name a few) we all know the ridiculous Space and cat leggings everyone carries (i mean serious you’d want to buy those cat leggings right????)  Everywhere you look has bottoms from Disney, Old 90’s tv shoes. Where you can find them you might ask, well a few places are the ever so popular Shop Jeen, Unif, Wastlanad , Hot Topic,  just to name a few. The rise of the legging, is here to stay, so you know deep inside you have those leggings hiding, just like i do (i even have  TRIPP NYC leopard leggings) hiding in my closet. It’s always fun to bring out that ridiculous legging now in then even just for the hell of it.

-Hope you have a fabulous weekend,

The Mens Wear Collection

Hi there,TheMensCollection

Have you been wondering where I’ve been? I have been hiding away from blogging for a week due to illness, and in general being super busy with my job. Today, I am going to bring you the brand new topic of “The Menswear Collection” in my break down of trends that have died away but are cool now. I recently went thrifting in the men’s side of things, and have really looked at men’s clothing more often than women’s to be honest. They are more interesting sometimes. It has been more of a fun print thing for me recently, and men are always wearing ridiculous button ups, flannels, and bow ties – so why couldn’t women wear that kinda of stuff? I pulled together some prime examples of the way men’s clothing are used today (I.E. the men’s flannel shirt used as a dress, so DIY babes do it). Of course I just had to throw Carrie in there because I once heard Pat Fields describe wearing menswear as very sexy (ie. why women started wearing the “boyfriend jeans” and why Gap made them in every color).

In today’s society, I feel there are no gender switching roles between men and women. Women want to be equally treated as men and put into power positions just the same (i.e. the recent twitter debate about there are no women who sit on the twitter board of directors). So why are we bringing this up? Well geez, if Dennis Rodman can wear ladies clothing , so can I. Women want again to be treated as equals to men, so why are the gender clothes switching recently in fashion today? Is it because we want that equality. For me personally, I saw this as an opportunity as an oh hey an ugly dress, i can make look awesome moment. For most women the menswear line is big and drapy as some larger ladies. Like for me, I like it high waited and some menswear really does provide that stability that in “over-sizing” we want. To throw that in with underwear too, we women thought it was very sexy to have “the boy-short” created for us because we felt sexier in our boys underpants then those thongs we owned.

Women wanted to have something they could feel comfortable in and move about in, so as you find yourself stealing your boyfriends FDNY t-shirt, Ill be rocking my 5x mens shirt as a dress. Only because I felt that I don’t need to shop either side. Sometimes it’s fun for a woman to switch clothing genders! Switch it up!

Top Blogge Essentials Things you may Want.

Hey Guys, I’m back with a new post, well I’m back with some more #October Obsessions. This little post is about have you ever considered starting a blog? One of my many obsessions now is writing for my blog, and it has kept me really focused and pushing my creativity to come up with new ideas for my blog. Well today I’m going to share my ability, as i have been purely growing in my blog and things i’ve been really using when it comes to blogging and figuring out things along the way.

First Essential for your new-found love of blogging : Is a tablet, id suggest the Ipad, it’s not only has great portability but it’s a mac product, (as i have been using apple products for a long time it makes it the best) its light weight and durable and features many other things you can do with it, which i will get to in a later point. Plus it helps you write your blog on the go, writing for me has been difficult to keep up so i have been really focusing on writing everyday if possible on new topics i’ve really started to write on the go to. Thats why the iPad is perfect. Plus its perfect for searching inspiration, pintrest, and many other social media outlets.

Second Essential is a good working camera,  {for me its a bit different i went to school for photography but i am longer practicing in my field of study due to a career change} I use personally a canon30D but i found this stunning Samsung camera that i absolutely fell in love with. its a great focus point and shoot model and comes in a gorgeous white color and it’s pricey. When you are willing to spend lots of money for a great shooting camera for those wonderful pictures of all your fashion you’ll be posting.

Third Essential you will need in your new technical lifestyle, Will be social media, social media plays a HUGE part of the blogging industry, (Ps are you following me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Pintrest) see as you can see, the social media keeps you majorly connected to designers, people other bloggers and worlds of information. So if your’e thinking of setting up these id suggest that you’d get yourself on all these networks because it’s really important that you’d check these out!

The One fast last Essential that you need is a smart phone, not only like your Ipad it keeps you connected in so many ways, if you are considering blogging, id suggest getting Instagram because its kept me in tune with so many awesome people who i love to follow and in the fashion industry if your ever curious to those of the highest in fashion live life everyday. Not only is it essential you can keep in touch with trends , tips (Thanks to Apps Like Purely who will keep you RIGHT on trend with all the fashion designers you love) There are many other options a cell phone can do for you in the world of blogging, when I was starting out I kept tweeting like a maniac to start my blog , and it helps you stay connected in so many ways.

As you can see investing in good products + fan-girling social media will help you become successful in the terms of blogging and seeing where you can bring your future.

Crossing Things Off The Fall Bucket List

Hi Guys! I’m back with another posting! I have to share what a day off i had the other day. See when you work my schedule days off are very rare and sacred, and i try to live them for the most that they are. As you read my October Obsessions : What To Love About October  you’d know i have this fall bucket list, to cross off. Well i decided, what better to do then to check out orchards. Since i live in Iowa (which your probably asking what in the heck do you do in that state?) Well since we are in hence “Americas heartland” Iowa does, has a rich land to explore, and great for photo options. I of course visited Center Grove Orchard” it was a fantastic, place to visit if you are in central Iowa I’d suggest checking this place out. I paid for the admission of the farm, which has a lot of activities for kids (hey and me too). They have a giant corn pool you can swim in, i mean hence = Iowa corn! I had a lot of fun picking apples ( i walked with a half of bag of apples)! They have a great pumpkin patch too. I ended up picking a HUGE pumpkin! Lots of fun, for the entire family, it was just fun to do on a day off, it was beautiful out. Whats on your bucket list that you’ve been waiting to cross off? Something fall related, i’d suggest checking out my October Obsessions Pintrest board for more ideas! Hope your weekend is fabulous!

Learning To Work With What You Have: {Love who you are}

{Notice this post will get a 100% Raw}.

Hey guys, I am back with another edition of styled in the heartland. I wanted to take a a post to talk about, well the reason i started blogging. For so long as far as i can remember i’ve always really hated my body i never liked who i was. I was so jealous of people who are naturally skinny and who dont really have to work to have a healthy body. I had to work over 9 months to loose 60lbs and it was so hard, and now i have to continue to even work harder to lose more weight (as i really am aiming that goal but it has been super difficult.) With my body however i am like the in Between i can were a plus size but in shirts I can wear normal sizes. I recently emailed another blogger, telling them within the world of blogging i hated subjecting myself calling me “A plus sized blogger” because i really hate that term, its just a label America slapped upon me. However i like to think of myself as more of a fun sized blogger, with a lot of weird style. I keep fighting myself everyday to get up to eat right to work out because being skinny is/or was my obsession and losing the weight became the best thing in my life that has happened to me but in September and even the beginning of October I’ve really Slipped up because its just been increasingly heard to keep up. I dedicated myself to being the best i can be and that’s when im eating healthy, getting a lot of sleep, and working my body for good.

The More I blog the more i am beginning to understand i have to work with the body i have, and that i have to keep my goals in my mind, the more i am learning about my blog the more i learn about myself. It has been such a great building progress so far. I want to say thank you for those who have been reading so far and really believing in me, because I know that i have to believe in myself, and believe that this blog has kept me in a lot of growth, not only to love me for who i am, and keep focusing on being the best stylist i can be with my own vision and style.

October Obsessions, What to love about October

Can you feel it already? It’s that time of year, it’s finally fall! Fall is not only the greatest time in the year, but the most changing time in my life as well. In this post, im going to dive into a few things im obsessing about for the month of October. I will breaking it down in little subsections to give you some fun insight to whats on my mind these days, as we head into October a time of pumpkins, fall, and sweaters.

First things first, after my Chicago trip i started making a list of all the things i want to do this fall, so i found this cute bucket list on Pintrest (by the way you should totally follow me I’ve even made it easy and made you guys a fall obsession board) The few things from this bucket list, i really want to do is Visit a pumpkin patch, pick apples, and of course drink apple cider. What kinda fall would it be without anyone of those things listed on that little bucket list! (Ps, if you are in Iowa and know of a pumpkin patch please let me know! I’m looking for one!)

Secondly, ill dive into fall fashion, as you know this is the time to bring out those great sweaters. My favorite items included in fall fashion are there are so many sweaters to dive into, but since i live in area not accessible to a lot of fashion (such as big houses like H&M, Zarra, Topshop etc) i did however find this amazing poncho from Gap (which you can see here) . I am a huge fan of the faux leather leggings, you can totally find them at target. I mean for a deal for faux leather target is your place!. See a trend here? Over size sweaters, and leggings (plus cute hats and apple cider!) Forever ago, i began searching for the perfect boot, i hate not seeing a lot of choices for a tall leather boot, but how ever i have been surfing Steve madden and found the ones ive been wanting and under $200.00 (which isn’t bad for fall boots because they can get super pricey). As again, ill state Huge Sweater, Leggings + tall boot = Fall love and my super obsession.

Thirdly + Fourthly (are combined): I’m going to dive into to Halloween, now we ALL love Halloween! I’m mean for real who does not love Candy, costumes and the ever tacky Halloween sweater (oh yeas im all about the tacky here) in my pintrest fall obsession board ive listed all kinds of fun Halloween ideas, decor and more pumpkin carving ideas. I am planning a Halloween scare off! I like home-maid Halloween items and themed jewelry (which most of it came from Super Sales, Yard Sales, and Claire’s after Halloween specials) You can check out I’m Your Present on Etsy she not only is the coolest but has the best choice in dresses and accessories for Halloween (like ps isn’t that pumpkin dress the BEST!?).

Lastly i am going to dive into how to stay connected with all of these Obsessions and trends. Have you heard of the Purely Fashion App? If you are like me, and crave style tips at your fingertips well now there is away! You can check out the Purley fashion app on your smart phone. (Or if you have the Iphone you can find it on the iTunes market free). You can follow your favorite designers (like who DOESN’T love being in-tune with the likes of Dior, Siriano, McQueen, Wang just to name a few). The App is so nicely designed and keeps you informed on trends, and whats going on in the current Season. I just love Purely not only it keeps me informed but it keeps me finding designers who i didnt know about that i fall in love with. So check out Purely Fashion App Today!

(*i have not been compensated to speak for purley fashion just love the app)

Hope you enjoyed hearing my trends & Obsessions for fall!

Well by now, If you have followed me on Instagram you’d would have known i spent my weekend in Chicago IL. I arrived Friday afternoon only to meet with my designer friend Ashley Drapes (who you before saw me style in earlier post which you may be-wanting to buy DRAPES and NOW), i have a new piece from Drapes i cant wait to wear. This weekend was just nuts, i spent more time running around that city than anything (if you know i used to live there). I was mostly there to attend a concert and see friends (which partly didn’t happen due to schedules and time conflicts) However, i did attend a fabulous Midwest Style bloggers brunch on Saturday morning held at QUAY . I was nervous not knowing what to expect because i myself am relatively new at blogging.  However, i did learn a lot from seasoned veterans in the game, that you blog what you love, and what I’m Loving, everything (bedazzled ahem that sweater I’m wearing). I went with an open mind and to represent Iowa as my state (which there were a few others there from out-of-town). Here are 5 things i learned.

  1. Always be yourself, do what you know, blog what you love. Dont be afraid to be who you are (being plus -sized or not)
  2. Hard work does pay off.
  3. Networking and Bouncing ideas off each other, helps epically when your very new
  4. Its OK to live on a small budget (for me that’s where my passion streams out from)
  5. Everyone has there own style, you just need to find out how to work with yours.

See, the event payed off more ways than one, plus i got to meet a lot of fabulous women, and eat some delicious food from Quay (might i mention that the space is like the best Chicago had to offer? I mean lets talk about swanky to a T) below i will share some fun images from my trip including my swag from the awesome gift bags that were provided from the brunch. Also, i made a rather special buy at Louis Vuitton (i told myself only one time and as a result I’ve made a commitment not to shop for 2 moths to be financially responsible, who am i turning into my dad?) I had a fabulous time in Chicago, a huge thank you to the sponsors of my fabulous time at the #MSBBRUNCHI

12A Huge thank you to the sponsors of the event Quay Chicago, Langford Market (which i did take a visit to and the staff was very helpful and Loads of fun dresses i picked up some cute jewelry and i love it!) Berco’s Popcorn (Chicago’s most delicious popcorn way better than garrets) , Tieks, Vita Coco, Thyme Is Honey (ps i won a fabulous organizational pad i love), The Gem Lush, two rubbies, Comfort Me (which was SUPER amazing to visit the girl helping me was very nice and invited me back next time i visit Chicago) , Pretty Quick,  Nicole by Opi, Jouer Cosmetics (which i LOVE my new grace color!)  Red Apple Lipstick , Bloomingdales.

*note i have not been compensated for mentioning anything in this post, this is just for the love of these brands who showed me love*

collage with that, i remain till tomorrow.

A New Site, A New Me, & Fun.

Styled In The Heartland-1

“Hardwork Mixed With Passion, You Can Do Anything” – Corri Mcfadden

….and I am back, with a whole new site! I’d like to present styledintheheartland.com. I’ve been away from blogging for several reasons, but have received lots of encouragement to start up once again. I’m pretty proud of this site and have made a few changes I think you’ll enjoy. Coming back with lots of new ideas! I’ve been working hard at crafting up new outfits and just going with what I know! Since I last blogged, I’ve moved to a new community and am refocusing again on my weight loss. As you know, I lost 60 lbs. and am working on losing more! Even as hard as I’ve been working, it’s a slow process. I don’t see myself as a “Plus Size” blogger, even though there’s nothing wrong with that. I just feel that I’m different and my style makes me stand out from others. I promise to do my best this time and stick with the blog. I hope you stick with me too! Welcome to the my new “Styled in the Heartland” website!
