Happy Monday, welcome back from my crazy last week. (i took a week off to much stuff going on). Last weekend i went to Go Blog Social X Chicago! I had a crazy crazy weekend in Chicago (i almost didn’t make it home). I am just finishing up a huge paper about my trip to Kansas City.  I am going to point out a few key things i learned from our speakers (ps i love the EVERY GIRL speakers!)

  •  Alison Ray of Sassy Moms in The City–  i love here! I met her last year (on my first blogger brunch).  She had a lot of great thing to say. One key point she really discussed was “YOU CREATE YOUR OWN OPPORTUNITIES”. I have always been a firm believer in this. My life motto is you want it you MAKE IT HAPPEN. It was pretty amazing to here it come from someone who has been in the blogging industry to a long time.
  • Farrisa Knox of What R U Wearing – created a stellar presentation called Boss Period. She talked a lot about where she came from. Explained to us how she handles employees, and her business . One thing i took away from her stories is not only to be a #GIRLBOSS but to be a Boss of your own destiny! Also to reach out and do things Outside of your comfort zone.
  • Daniel Moss of The Every Girl–  I loved the Every Girl ( I admitt I’m not an average reader of that website, but i have read it before and enjoyed it) I got to hear the story about How the Every Girl got started. The stories that came along from this little site were amazing. One thing i really took away from this was to just Be “True and Authentic”. I loved hearing about the story how a little website grew and grew!
  • It was really nice to connect with others offline. To visit with old friends or to meet new friends. Its really important to know where ever you are in your journey in blogging or a business is that we have all been there one time or another.

I feel super wonderful to have the chance to be able to travel and meet with others. It helps me to be passionate and remember why i started this in the first place.  I want to thank Go Blog Social and All the Sponsors that worked with us during the event.

have a wonderful Monday.

xx

Cartoonwomen

I sat tonight, trying to think what i was going to write about? I didnt have any outfits provided to write about. I have been feeling lackluster on my blog lately. Ever since my server went down i havent had time to shoot new clothing. I thought i would provide you with cartoon women whom i love.  Yes i am 27 and i still watch cartoons. Here are reasons why i like them

Daria- Tells it like it is. Uses sarcasm,. I used to believe that i was her, and jane both.

Miss Frizzle, always known for her clothes. Why identify with her so much.

DW- So Much Sass for a 4 year old.

Lisa Simpson- Smart and she wasn’t afraid to be who she was.

Pepperann, (she was my favorite since i was like 14) i love her. She does her own thing.

Ginger- I love Ginger. She was sensitive and creative.

Patty Mayonnaise – She was so in love with Dough. She had a sweet feminine side.

Eliza – She always followed her heart. She talked to a monkey all the time. Her sister was wacko.

I know this isn’t my typical blog post. I was just sharing things i really like!

Enjoy .

Im feeling Oscarish.

Hey, it’s almost 2014- and Ive got a request for 2014

Hey Guys, I am sorry i have taken so long to be away from my blog, there were a lot of contributing factors to that. A Lot of it was working full time takes a lot of out of me and leaves me very little time to work on my blog. Well as you know 2014, is ghastly approaching us, 2013 has been a whirlwind of things happening. I not only moved across the state of Iowa, to look for work and try to get back into school, i got a new job working part time at a local consignment store which i really enjoy a lot. I started focusing more on my blog to stay focused and write what i love to do, which is DIY, and thrift shop.  Styled in the heartland became a creative focus for me to really use my skills to keep my head somewhere else.

I am going to share and get really personal here, i hope that’s ok with you. From 2007-2013. I had suffered secret addiction to online- internet gaming. I was addicted to a game called second life, which is all in all like the Sims, i wasted 100’s of dollars, there made a lot of poor choices in my life, was so enthralled i cut pretty much a lot of people off from really knowing the whole story. I was suffering through depression, anxiety and more importantly thoughts of suicide during that time. I wrote about a prior experience with it and how just my life had been here and here. I was never really proud of what had gone on , considering i was playing a game “trying to find a creative outlet” for my art degree- which i never used, i struggled all that time till 2013 i finally put an end it to it, after i had saw a definite exit out sign. When i saw people from the game make a very public “plurk” (social media network) that said a lot of really horrible things everything from “Pushy to , bat shit crazy , to clingy”. There was a mention of stalking people in that plurk and i knew i had to get out, i knew it was the end for me. I told myself you dont need that give yourself a year to be away and see how you feel. It’s been 5 months since, the whole indecent, and truthfully ive had want to go back but yet i want to stay far away from it. I was depressed severely, and i didnt know how to go on, and make things ok. Now that i am out of it, i focused my efforts towards this blog, which allows me to use my creative aspects, in all kinds of ways, and ive been blessed to find a few people who really believed in me my project here, its not to where i want to be but i know that it will be someday.

I still struggle though, i still struggle with money, finances, work, finding the money and time to keep this going, but i press on but this is why i have one simple request for 2014. In april of 2014 is a really important blogger confrence called “Go Blog Social.

What is go blog social? “Go Blog Social is a social media conference taking place in Kansas City April 4 – April 5, 2013.  Designed to inform, educate and inspire, Blog Social brings bloggers, social media experts and businesses together for a two-day event to connect-the-dots. Go Blog Social Conference is a destination to meet in-person, connect with businesses, learn about the social industry and gain the tools to grow. Whether just starting out or a blog veteran, interested in bustling your brand or a business, Blog Social offers the information, advice and expertise to help you do just that.” Heres how you can help, and the break down of what i will need in terms of funding for this opportunity,

  • -106.49 Go Blog Social Tickets

  • 200.00 Room & Board  (cheap hotel i can find)
  • 200.00 for gas & other expenses (food and everything else i might need)

You’re wondering why you should help? Help me stay focused and focused on a creative career that allows me to use my skills, and what i know, while i work through the toughest economy ever. How can you help donate to me? You can go here: http://www.gofundme.com/Help-me-get-to-GBS14 it’s a direct link to help me fund the money to go, i hope you will find it your heart to help me out, and make this dream come true. i thank you so much for listening, and reading my story. I feel as the need to also say, that you are not only helping me but also really helping me to stay focused and out of addiction-

love always

Hi Guys! I’m back with another posting! I have to share what a day off i had the other day. See when you work my schedule days off are very rare and sacred, and i try to live them for the most that they are. As you read my October Obsessions : What To Love About October  you’d know i have this fall bucket list, to cross off. Well i decided, what better to do then to check out orchards. Since i live in Iowa (which your probably asking what in the heck do you do in that state?) Well since we are in hence “Americas heartland” Iowa does, has a rich land to explore, and great for photo options. I of course visited Center Grove Orchard” it was a fantastic, place to visit if you are in central Iowa I’d suggest checking this place out. I paid for the admission of the farm, which has a lot of activities for kids (hey and me too). They have a giant corn pool you can swim in, i mean hence = Iowa corn! I had a lot of fun picking apples ( i walked with a half of bag of apples)! They have a great pumpkin patch too. I ended up picking a HUGE pumpkin! Lots of fun, for the entire family, it was just fun to do on a day off, it was beautiful out. Whats on your bucket list that you’ve been waiting to cross off? Something fall related, i’d suggest checking out my October Obsessions Pintrest board for more ideas! Hope your weekend is fabulous!

Well by now, If you have followed me on Instagram you’d would have known i spent my weekend in Chicago IL. I arrived Friday afternoon only to meet with my designer friend Ashley Drapes (who you before saw me style in earlier post which you may be-wanting to buy DRAPES and NOW), i have a new piece from Drapes i cant wait to wear. This weekend was just nuts, i spent more time running around that city than anything (if you know i used to live there). I was mostly there to attend a concert and see friends (which partly didn’t happen due to schedules and time conflicts) However, i did attend a fabulous Midwest Style bloggers brunch on Saturday morning held at QUAY . I was nervous not knowing what to expect because i myself am relatively new at blogging.  However, i did learn a lot from seasoned veterans in the game, that you blog what you love, and what I’m Loving, everything (bedazzled ahem that sweater I’m wearing). I went with an open mind and to represent Iowa as my state (which there were a few others there from out-of-town). Here are 5 things i learned.

  1. Always be yourself, do what you know, blog what you love. Dont be afraid to be who you are (being plus -sized or not)
  2. Hard work does pay off.
  3. Networking and Bouncing ideas off each other, helps epically when your very new
  4. Its OK to live on a small budget (for me that’s where my passion streams out from)
  5. Everyone has there own style, you just need to find out how to work with yours.

See, the event payed off more ways than one, plus i got to meet a lot of fabulous women, and eat some delicious food from Quay (might i mention that the space is like the best Chicago had to offer? I mean lets talk about swanky to a T) below i will share some fun images from my trip including my swag from the awesome gift bags that were provided from the brunch. Also, i made a rather special buy at Louis Vuitton (i told myself only one time and as a result I’ve made a commitment not to shop for 2 moths to be financially responsible, who am i turning into my dad?) I had a fabulous time in Chicago, a huge thank you to the sponsors of my fabulous time at the #MSBBRUNCHI

12A Huge thank you to the sponsors of the event Quay Chicago, Langford Market (which i did take a visit to and the staff was very helpful and Loads of fun dresses i picked up some cute jewelry and i love it!) Berco’s Popcorn (Chicago’s most delicious popcorn way better than garrets) , Tieks, Vita Coco, Thyme Is Honey (ps i won a fabulous organizational pad i love), The Gem Lush, two rubbies, Comfort Me (which was SUPER amazing to visit the girl helping me was very nice and invited me back next time i visit Chicago) , Pretty Quick,  Nicole by Opi, Jouer Cosmetics (which i LOVE my new grace color!)  Red Apple Lipstick , Bloomingdales.

*note i have not been compensated for mentioning anything in this post, this is just for the love of these brands who showed me love*

collage with that, i remain till tomorrow.

The Art Of Getting Lucky When Your’e Thrifting

styledintheheartlandphilliplim

Styledintheheartlandphillip1jpg

styledheartlandphillip2

Today … on Styled in the heartland,  I will be giving some general tips when getting lucky in a thrift store. As you can see here, i am so excited its fall and that means fall fashion is around the corner (or literally here in some cases).  This past weekend has been really busy for me as im preparing for a mini weekend vacation as well as a lot of projects going on and very busy week. Recently since i moved ( i had to give a lot of my clothes away), but i have shopped at the salvation army a lot here, in the town i moved to. I approached it as  it’s just a salvation army just like all the rest of them, but seemingly this seems to be the cheapest on in or surrounding the Des Moines area. Central Iowa has a lot of advantage over other parts of the state everything is right here, at your finger tips. What’s really great about it, is that on this saturday i happen to be in the salvation army shopping before my trip (as you know i used to live in Chicago, so i am departing to do some errands including a visit to my network Chicago Bloggers Network ) so i am taking up some other things while visiting and a few suggestions of stores from my favorite bloggers). As i was saying but this last Saturday i happen to walk down the blazer isle, and i happen to see this beautiful blazer (currently wearing) and i looked at the label of the blazer and its ESCADA, now if any of you know Escada is a high Luxurious Label. I was so overjoyed to not only find 1 blazer but 4! They retail for over $599-799.00 New (according to Neiman Marcus/Saks Fifth Avenue) . Lets just say when you have it you buy it, don’t let those things go!

Mini Tips

  • Vintage Designer – BUY IT
  • Don’t know the Label Google it on your smart phone- to see price range

On more important news, as you know this Monday launched the official Phillip Lim For Target collection. Is overly static (if you have seen my Twitter i talked about not being able to find it). I luckily had them hold the last satchel bag. The women’s collection is fantastic, full of fun prints, and a lot of very neutral colors, Perfect for that fall wardrobe, there are a lot of tans,  yellow, black, and gray , and burgundy and a few prints , but very tailored for that specific look that you’re looking for to ease into that “fall Wardrobe”.  The collection in itself does work for a range of body types, I am partial to this sweatshirt, but i found a post that explains what works best for Plus Size Types.  I would suggest you take a look and nab it up while you can, because it will be gone before you know it.

Styled In The Heartland Hearts Edrop Off

Hey guys, sorry its taking me so long to update you! Last weekend i had the privilege of shopping with E-Drop Off ( a consignment based eBay store in Chicago IL) They had a annual charity warehouse sale, which i didnt make it to last year but this year i drove up at 2 am got there @5 and stood in line and managed to snag loads of designer goodies such as Lanvin Flats, Chanel , Prada, Fendi, Tory Burch, Marc Jacobs, Pucci, Elizbath Gillet, Escada, Bill Bass, Judith Lieber! It was madness the people in line, plus the ladies i stood in line with were funny! I had a great time in picking up some designer end items for a good cause. All the Money went to Charity. I also had the privilege of consigning items with Edrop Off they made it super easy for me all i had to do was drop of the item in the posh Lincoln park store.
I hope you enjoy this short quick post! If you would like to bid on my item Vist Here
